Lab meetings take place most weeks, and can have a few different formats.
Lab meeting formats
Regardless of the format, Kevin will create a https://hackmd.io agenda for everyone to edit. People should add what they’ve worked on in the past week in the ## Individual upates section.
The first part of lab meetings will always be lab business. If you have something that touches on lab operations or that involves the lab as a whole, add it to the agenda under the Lab Business section.
Basic updates format
In this type of lab meeting everyone will “present” for a few minutes based on what they’ve done in the past week. This presentation is informal (no slides), and you should bring in a bit of data or code or a sketch of experimental design, or a figure from a paper that relates to what you’ve been working on.
Everyone should plan to talk for 3-5 minutes, and we may have more discussion that goes for up to 10 min total.
Presentation format
In this type of lab meeting one member of the lab will give a 20-30 min “formal” presentation on their project. This might be a practice talk for an external presentation, or just a way to update everyone on your project as a whole, and practice this method of science communication.
Full time members of the lab should expect to give these presentations ~4 times per year. Summer interns should expect to give a presentation at the end of the summer, part time students should give a presentation once / semester.
